4th of July Decor

I figured it was time to show you all some of my 4th of July decor.  This happens to be from my living room.  If you follow me on Twitter than you might remember a little shopping trip I took with my daughter to some of my favorite stores (Ikea and Tia Pan Trading Co.)  These are some of the goodies that made it home with me.

 The medallions I made for a Cub Scout Pack Night.  I loved them so much I new they needed to find a home front and center.  And what better place than on the living room table.

 Speaking of the table...  Do you all remember me buying it like 2 years ago on a late night walk with my bestie?  I snagged it for $8.  I sanded it and painted it white with leftover paint.  I knew it needed something extra so I pulled out the painters tape and some more leftover yellow paint (used on my family room several years ago).  I instantly loved the stripes.  The hubs not so much.  In fact he said he hated them.  So it sat in my living room waiting for a make over.  Funny thing is.  Come New Years the hubs said he liked the stripes and I was so over them.  LOL  Well it sat there forever.  Now I am liking the stripes again.

 Doesn't the legs of the table remind you of an elephants tusk?

I do love how curvy they are though.

The wheels on the truck go......

I just love it when the UPS truck stops in front of my house.  Today he brought me something so fun. Take a look.

 I found this lovely on a site called Save-on-Crafts.com.  And at a great price.  Only $8.oo plus shipping.

 Aren't the little milk jugs soooooo stinkin cute?


And what about those handles.  I love how it is rustic but not to overly done.  Now the big question.  Where to put it?  I have so many ideas. 

Well, we start Spring Break this afternoon and it decided to SNOW/HAIL.  What is with that?  I hope it changes back to sunny weather soon.  I wanted to start painting the outside of the house this weekend.  I even picked out 2 colors to choose from.  ARGH!!  Wish me luck.  And have a great one!  :O)

A little touch of Fall...

So it is almost Thanksgiving.... I can hardly believe it.... I have been going through more boxes. Trying to finally unpack and move back in... So it has only taken me like 5 months... What's the big deal, right? Slow and steady wins the race... I have been trying to tackle as many projects as possible before all the FOUR LETTER WORD hits.... You know...snow... SHHHHH! Don' say it out load... So as I was saying... I have been going through some boxes and came across some fun autumn things that I wanted to display....

The table runner I got at Kohl's for like $8-10. I love it... The hurricane I got at Walmart like forever ago... Try 4 years... It was actually and amber color... It was dusty and as I was washing it off and the color started to come off... FINE.BY.ME. I wanted it to be clear anyways...

I made the stacking blocks last year for a craft fair I was in back in Michigan... which just so happens to be this weekend...... I love the colors of them... So warm.. Makes me want to wrap up in a warm sweater and go jump into a leaf pile... LOL Anyways, I got the pumpkins at Robert's Crafts (with a coupon of course)... They were orange but I just took off the stems and spray painted them Rustolium Heirloom White and put the stems back on... I think they are adorable...

Master Bedroom touches...

So I finished the painting of our bedroom a few weeks ago (well, actually a month ago...But who is counting?) I ordered two new quilts for the bed at Overstock.com at amazing prizes... I love that site... They arrived and I love them. I also have been collecting items from garage sales, DI, and Savers... Take a look.... The berry wreath I got a garage sale for .50 cents... The stand was $1 at DI...

This dish was the priciest.... I got it at Savers for $6. I loved it and thought it would work great to hold some of my jewelry that I wear everyday... I love the details in it and the sparkle of the jewels.....

They look nice sitting on my dresser..

Now I just need to put a mirror over my dresser... I have one but it needs some attending to before I can hang it... Sorry, you will just have to wait a bit more on that one....

See that wall really needs something.... It's going to be great when I get it done... :O)

I finished the bed skirt that my bestie was helping me with... I love the material...

It has the blue/grey from the wall color and the touch of red that I needed... Can you see my new quilt?

Here is a view of the foot board for our bed... I painted the bed white... I LOVE IT!!!

I know the pillows need some work... I will be getting to that soon I hope... Priorities, priorities.... But doesn't the headboard look great with the wall?

This red quilt my mother made for me and I knew I wanted it in this room... It gives just the pop of color I wanted in here... I am really loving how the room is coming together... I feel so at peace when I enter my bedroom now...

While I go walking...

I have to stop at all the yard sales... I found some great stuff this weekend.. I can hardly wait to utilize them in my decor... I got the spindles for a $1 each and the skinny ones for $.50 each. The basket was $2 and the white basket was FREE.. Gotta love that!

The mason jars (with the old lids/seals) were $1 each. Been looking for some since I saw Lindsey over at The Pleated Poppy use them in her master bath as soap dispensers.. So clever! Sorry, I do not remember what I paid for the rest.

Now, this coffee table was my shining moment for the weekend. See I go walking every night with some friends and this past Thursday night we happened to walk by a house that was getting everything ready for a yard sale the next day. Now it was like 9:30 at night and getting dark so I had to take a quick look around and saw this beauty and asked how much... $8 was all she was asking.. "I'll take it.. Can you hold it for me until 9 am Friday?" "Sure thing." So the next morning I went and picked it up.. I have some major plans for it.. YES, painting it is on the agenda. Can you guess what color?

Girls day

I had the opportunity to spend the day with a good friend of mine today. She had become my adoptive mom here in Michigan. She is so dear to me. Her name is Kathy and I just love her. We decided to shop and go to lunch. We both have a soft spot for Mexican food. YUMMMMO!!!

We hit the usual places like Hobby Lobby and Target then lunch where we talked and laughed and just enjoyed each others company. Then it was off to Goodwill. I found some great treasures there today... Just take a look......
What did I tell you? The circle topiary thingy was $3. I like it just as it is so probably will not do anything to it. Who knows, I might change my mind later...but that is my prerogative (is that spelled right? It is what the computer says.) (did that song come to your mind like it did mine? Back when Bobby Brown was semi decent!)...The candle stick and 4 plates (which are mikasa by the way) were $1.50 each. The plates were taped together so that was a steal! The large iron fork and spoon were $3. I have plans for them. That will be another post hopefully in the not to distant future.

Spring Decor Take Two

Okay, so I had horrible lighting last night so I could not take any pictures of where I put the apothecary jars. So, the lighting is good now. I have been redoing our computer/pass through room. I have painted it and have finally started to decorate it. This is the biggest wall in the room. So of course I had to put something large on it. Do you like? Every thing I either bought at DI, Goodwill, or Hobby Lobby (90% off aisle). I got the shelf for $4 at DI. It used to be green so I painted it black. The milk white urns I purchased at Goodwill. I think I only paid like $9 for all three. The large circle thing (technical wording) was at Hobby Lobby for only $3.50. I did nothing to it. I liked it as it was.... The candle stand and candle was given to me when we bought our house in Utah. It was white so I of course painted it...this time I used folk arts Jamaican Sea (same as the speckled eggs). You know about the apothecary jars already. So that leaves us with the blocks. I made them for a craft show I was in last November. They were a BIG hit. i sold out of them all in the first 10 minutes of the show. Had to start taking orders. I have made so many of them. I just love them so I made myself a set.

Remember yesterday I said I had 12 eggs that I painted? Well, as promised here is where the other 6 were used at. My new Spring center piece for my kitchen table. Do you like?

Now everything used was thrifted to on sale. The charger I had for a previous center piece. It still only cost $3. The flowers and pot were from Michael's and I paid $2 for it. The cloche I made out of a candle stick and cheese plate/dome from goodwill (see March 4th entry). I only paid $3.80 for it. Which brings us to the last 6 eggs. Don't they look pretty in there? The dove was from the same Goodwill trip as the eggs. I paid $1 for her. She was this nasty nasty nasty orange and gold. So I did what any one would do.... I spray painted her Heirloom white. Now I loves her. :O)

I like the change of the center piece. It makes me happy every time I see it. May be that is because I am soooooo excited for Spring. I just love this time of year. Don't you?

From Goodwill finds to Spring decor!

A while back I made a trip to 2 different Goodwill's and these are some of the treasures I found. Today I decided to use a couple of them. See those eggs? They cost me $0.50 and that orange dove was $1. I transformed them into 2 something beautifuls. Scroll down and see the process..... I painted the eggs with Folk Arts Jamaican Sea and let them dry.

Then I used burnt umber mixed with a little h20. I used an OLD toothbrush and splattered the brown on the eggs to make them look like Robins eggs. My oldest came home and saw them and asked if they were real... I guess I accomplished my goal in making them look real. :O)

Remember the apothecary jars I made out of baby food jars? Well that is where my beautiful robins eggs are. I love the way they look inside. What do you think?

I will show you tomorrow where I put the jars. I have no light right now for good pictures. Sorry! I only used 6 of the 12 eggs in the apothecary jars so I needed to find somewhere else to use the rest. Could not get any pictures of that something wonderful due to the light issue, so again until tomorrow...... Have a great day/night! :O)

Today's thrifty finds!

So the hubs told me to take a little time to myself and go thrifting.....So I did. I was not going to pass that offer up. Time by my self with NO kiddios. That just happens to be a rare occasion for me.



I went to the Goodwill and these are what I found.



It's she lovely. I have always wanted a soup tureen. Did I spell that right? Oh well. I in tend to make her fit into my new decor for my china cabinet. First I need to paint said china cabinet. I will show you all that later. I got her for $5. Score!

So I have been telling the hubs I need/want bed side lamps. And since he has made some bed side tables this was the perfect time to find some. I am not sure if that is where they will end up but, I will find somewhere for them. I paid $1.50 for the cream and $2.00 for the gold. Again another score!

I found two dust ruffles for $3.99 each. I have plans for these. I think I will use the brown and pink one for my daughters room ( next time we move and she can have her own room). The cream and green one I want to use for a little settee I want to make out of a crib that we do not use anymore. There are also 2 pillow covers I got for $.99 each. I like the brown, green and pink together.

Goodbye Goodwill, Hello Gorgeous!

About a month ago or so I was strolling through some blogs and came across a project that I wanted to do sooo bad. I do not remember which blog it was but this Fab lady found an old wooden cheese/cracker plate and cloche and a candlestick. She transformed them into...Well something gorgeous! Fast forward to this week... I took a trip to the Goodwill the other day and guess what I found?





That's right, a wooden cheese/cracker plate, cloche, and a wooden candlestick. SCORE. I paid a total of $3.80 for all three. So I bet you can guess what I did next? That's right, I cut the top of the candlestick off, sanded it then glued it to the cheese/cracker plate with Gorilla glue epoxy. Since it has been so nice outside the last 3 days I have taken advantage and spray painted them black and almost everything else I can get my hands on. Take a look.

Don't you just love it? I do!

What a deal!

Okay, so Jason had the day off the other day and we decided to head into Muskegon (the nearest large city with decent restaurants, malls, and everything else.) I saw a store I have not been in since 2000. It is called HOBBY LOBBY and I have always loved it. I went in it with Jordan and Jason took Cameron in to Target ( the older boys were in school.) I had so much fun. I came across these sculptures that I LOVE and have wanted since like forever. They just have always been a little pricey. Well, did I come in to the deal of a century. They had them on sale. They usually run $35 and up but I only paid between $1.19- $3.50 for all SEVEN I had to pick up some card stock, thread, needles, and distressing ink also but I only sent - Get this $41.66. Is that not awesome? I know you are all jealous and would like to have some of the sculptures and my great price but sorry the store only goes as far west as Colorado. But, If you just happened to have responded to my Lucky 5 post you never now. You could just end up with one? :o)
