Brown Sugar

Okay, so I have/had a problem today. I wanted to make Cinnamon rolls for a sister in the Branch that I visit teach. She had foot surgery last Friday. So I made the dough and let it rise. When it was time to roll it out and add the butter and brown sugar-cinnamon mixture on it I realized ALL my brown sugar was as hard as a rock. I looked for my extra bag and it too was hard. OOOHHHH! What was I going to do? I did not want to run to the store and buy more so I thought. I know if I put a piece of bread in the container it will put moisture back in the sugar but that takes like 2 days. I need it NOW!!!!

Ahhh Haaaa! What if I put some of the brown sugar in a bowl and microwave it? Well, I did just that. I put it in for 1 minute then mixed it up then back in for another minute. Took it out and it was soft to the touch. All I had to do was loosen up the chunks.

So now you know how to soften brown sugar.

Have a great weekend! :o)

I'm at it again!

Well, the last couple weeks have been busy. Did not get done all I wanted to but that is OK. The hubs did happen to make matching night stands for our bedroom that match the new bench that sits at the end of our bed. Yeah! I will post about those another time.
Today I am getting ready for our YM/YW activity. I will post about that tomorrow. It should be lots of fun! I hope! Keep your fingers crossed.
Any hoo, I also whipped this beauty up today for one of my Young Women who has a birthday this month. I used what I had around the house and I love it. Might have to make one for my daughter. I just cut that 1-4 to size, sanded it, painted it, then printed off the picture ( I got it from The Idea Door web site under Young Womens), rubbed some ink on the edges. I sanded the edges of the board after it dried then mod podged the picture on and put a coat of mod podge on top and let it dry. I made the flower by cutting 3 different size circles in contrasting printed scrapbook paper, rubbed ink on them then waded them up and them opened them up. It gave them the dimensional look I wanted. I added a decorative brad to the middle of them got out my trusty hot glue gun and put the flower on the the board.
I really like how it turned out. Hope Lizzy likes it! Have a great week! And happy crafting! :O)

Absent?

Well, sorry I have not posted this week and most of last week. We found out some bad news about Jason's grandfather and needed to make a trip to Illinois. He is not doing well at all and we are pretty sure this last weekend is the last time we will see him. Hopefully his suffering will be short. We love him so much. He is such a great man. Loves his family so much. I am glad we were able to make the trip.

So grandpa, I know you will not be reading this but I wanted to say that I love you and will miss you lots. Thank you for welcoming me into the family 13 years ago. I have enjoyed spending time with you and grandma. I loved sitting back and watching you interact with the TV while you were watching the Cubs/Bulls/Bears play. It was a joy and made me laugh. Thanks for the memories. Love you.

Thank you for reading my ramblings. Hope everyone has a great rest of the week.

Refashioned Dress

In the craft blog club that I am in our challenge this week was to refashion an article of clothing. I kept thinking about what I could do and then I remembered this dress that I have had for quite some time. It has been packed away forever. I pulled it out and knew what I wanted to do. Since I have not worn it why not my daughter wear it instead.

So it went from this....

To this.....
Doesn't she look so cute in it. I like the way it turned out. I even have some fabric left over. I wonder what I will do with it? This was a fun challenge. Can not wait for next weeks.

Have a great weekend everyone! Happy crafting! :o)

Ugly nastiness gone!

So we are renting while here in Michigan and we have this one room that is just.....Well it looks like someone vomited on the walls. It is seriously horrible. It was painted purple then had a rag roll treatment in white over it. Can you say hideous? The owners said we could paint the walls ( they are so great and no they did not paint it that way. It was like that when they bought the house). Now this room is supposed to be the "formal" dinning room which you see when you walk in the front door. Just hold on to your lunch while you look at these pics and ignore the mess please...
They are horrible! Ewe, I think some vomit just came in my mouth while looking at these. That is my beautiful daughter in the picture. She told me I needed to paint the whole house and to start with this room. She is so smart. Must take after me.

Did you even happen to notice the beautiful crown molding? No one could get past the walls to even see the gems at the top. So here are the after shots. I used Glidden Soft Suede in a satin finish. I love it. Now on to the decorating.

I have some projects in the works. I will be making new curtains, a table clothe for the computer table, painting and hanging a large shelf, and paint the china cabinet to name a few.

Doesn't that just look so much better. It feels clean an airy and open. I love it.

When I am done in this room it's off to the living room. I am thinking maybe a shade lighter? Or not? Come back to find out. Have a great week. :O)
