Projects here and there

So I decided to take a little break and spend some time with my family.  It sure has been nice and  we have had some fun.

 But it is about time for school to start here (in 2 weeks) so I better get in gear and start posting again.  I mean can I really expect the kids to get back in to school/homework mode if I myself can not get back into blogging?  So here I am back from a fun summer break.  :O)

I thought I would show you all some fun little (and I mean little) projects that I have been doing over the summer.

  I had painted the inside of the front door black last fall.  I love it.  But it needed something.  I had  leftover ruffles from another project and thought they would work great to make a rag wreath.

 Next, I changed out the blue Christmas ornaments that were in the cloche I made a couple years ago.

 I had gotten these green moss rocks quite a while ago so this was a no cost change-a-roo.

 If you have never gotten on Groopdealz than you are missing out.  Check out the fun personalized kitchen rules subway art I got.  It was an awesome deal.  I LOVE IT!!!  It has even helped the kids table manners.  Maybe the kids can learn to be civil at the table.  Ha ha ha.

 It is hanging in my dinning area.  I also FINALLY made the curtains for the window in the dinning area.  They match the living room curtains.  I know why did I have them match?  Because I loved the fabric.  I was thinking of doing different curtains in the dinning area but did not want to spend any more $$$$$ so I had to use the same fabric as the living room.  That is alright cuz I still like them.  Just gives it a little more of a finishing touch in there.  See...

 I had decorated the tops of my cupboards last fall and never showed you all.  I know shame on me.  I had these miss match baskets and some fake grass ( from my neighbor who worked/worked for Albertson's warehouse here in Utah) and he had all of this fake grass that he was getting rid of.  I guess they had an over abundance and was going to throw it all away and he saved it.  Then I got some.  Wish I would have gotten lots more.  Anyways,  I spray painted the baskets black to make them match and put the grass in them.  The memories sign I got from an antique store that was going out of business.  And wouldn't you know it,  the lady that owed the store and I had met via our blogs a year earlier and did not know we lived in the same town.  CRAZY I tell ya.

 I don't know?  I am wondering if I should paint the memories sign.  The finish on it right now is like galvanized metal.  What do you think?  Come on give me your input.

Another part of the cabinets is small so I needed something to fill it up with out it looking cramped.  I made the "B" blocks back when we were living in Michigan.  The egg basket I got from the Goodwill there too.  More of the grass and some fake fruit.

Project time!

So we went away for the weekend to Steamboat Springs. Have a blast and now it is back to reality.. The sun is shining and it is feeling like spring is coming... Yeah!! So that puts me into project mode. I have decided to dedicate the Spring time to finishing my living room. You see, it has looked like this since September minus the table and chairs. I added them after the Christmas tree was taken down. I got the wing back chairs off of KSL for $50.. That is for both chairs..... SCORE!! I got the table at DI.. Boy is that a story.. I had been looking for a table like this and the wind back chairs for the family room. I had them down there for a while then mover them up to the living room.. Any hoo, I found the table at DI and it was $50. I did not buy it.. Why you ask? I said it was too much.. It kept bugging me and I waited 2 weeks then went back hoping it was still there... It was AND it was marked down to $35 dollars... So I bought it... That is all the furniture in here except for a table housing the computer and a china cabinet. Not much and not enough room for more that 3 people to sit. So my goal is to find a couch, love seat, a chair what ever I can on our budget and get this room done. I have some plans to add some architectural detail in here. Can not wait for that. Hope to get to it soon. But for now my project is to slipcover those wing back chairs.

See, not bad chairs just ugly dusty rose fabric. NOT my style...I decided to try my hand at making my own slipcover for the chairs so I am kind of practicing with some drop clothes that I had. Did not want to buy the fabric until I was more comfortable with making the slipcovers. So here goes... I will not be telling you what I did. But I will show you the pics I took along the way. :O)

Now I just need to go and sew it all together. Wish me luck.... :O)

P.S. I did not have enough drop clothe for the cushion so that is sitting on the floor waiting for inspiration or more fabric... Who knows... :O) I will be back later to show what it looks like after I sew it... EEK!!

What makes you happy?

Well, since I was able to fix my sewing machine myself... Tee Hee!! I needed to get back to business... And what business is that you ask?

Ruffles, lots and lots of ruffles.. And I do not mean the chips... :O) See this beautiful pile of ruffles? There are 80 ruffles there... Yes, I am happy now.. I am finally on the home stretch with this project.. It sure has taken me longer than I had hoped.. But I am sure it will be worth it in the end... Stay tuned to find out what I am making..

Yeah for me!!

I did it, I did it, yeah, yeah, yeah... No eating here tonight, hey, not eating here tonight, your on a diet...

Okay, I know lame... But it is one of my favorite movies of all time... Got to have me some "shark bait who ha ha"... :O)

No really, yeah for me because I FIXED MY SEWING MACHINE!!!!!! :O)

Like I said... Yeah for me!! I did it all by myself!!!

Bed News, Bad News, Bad News....

Argh!!!

My sewing machine broke last night while I was making ruffles!!!!!!!!


I need my sewing machine!! I still have curtains to make!!! Argh!!!

What I have been up to....

I was supposed to be organizing the rest of the kitchen but decided to put that off for a while. I was supposed to be organizing the bathroom cupboards but decided I did not want to do that just yet since I need to cut some wood to make a shelf for the cupboard. So what have I been doing you ask?

Easy.... I have been sewing... I decided I wanted to make something for Valentines day that could be left up for the Spring time too... So what have I come up with? You will have to wait and see as it is not done yet... BUT check out those colors....

OOOOH!! So lovely! I am in L.O.V.E. with how the colors blend so nicely... It is my own private rainbow! LOL :O)

I have also been playing with this....

Now, I got this back in September for a SCREAMING deal at the Scrapbook USA here in Utah. But, alas it stayed in its box until today... I got all my cartridges linked to it and got it registered... I am planning on playing with my Gypsy this weekend since we will be in the mountains playing in the snow. Should keep me entertained and DRY and WARM. :O)

Lastly, I have been de-cluttering this space....

It is my craft room. You could hardly walk in here this morning... This wall was stacked to the ceiling with boxes.. You see if I can not find a place for something it gets put in here. Not any more.. I have plans for this wall.. I have a cabinet that I got off of KSL for FREE and am turning it into something spectacular!! But, you will have to wait on seeing that..

This is one of the project areas from last fall... I turned the so called closet area into a scrapbook station. It is equipped with a counter top that I got at the Habitat Re-store. I will show better pics of this area when it is all cleared out. Don't you just love the bolts of fabric? The lighter one is for my curtains in the living room and kitchen/dining rooms. Hope to get those done real soon. The Buffalo check is for curtains and reupholstering the chair in this craft room. I will be working on that soon also.. The large picture is of Wrigley field. I got it for the Hubbs for our anniversary last July.... Still need to hang it obviously....

Thought I would show you the rest of the craft room too... Just keeping it real... Ignore the mess PLEASE because it is a Huge mess.... But, lots better than it was.. Really that is not saying much. As there is a lot to do still... But, as always it is a work in progress..

This cabinet holds lots of goodies... Decor goodies... It's my stash!! SHHH! Do not tell the Hubbs about it...

And the sewing area... At least I can sew now... Before I always had to take the sewing machine off the table so we could eat. So projects got left behind and never finished. Not any more!! :O)

See, here is my stash of sewing projects to be completed.... All nice and neat... Even comes complete with a almost finished key fob... Just one more stitch and it is done... I better get on that one so I can check it off my list...

Burp Cloths

So I have been making some baby things to send to my niece who just had her first baby last month. It has been so much fun.. Wish I would have made cute things when I was having babies.. I love the personal touch to everything. I sewed flannel onto some plain white diapers (wrong sides together leaving an opening and turned them right side out and finished the edge and sewed around the edge again). I like how they look but thought the pretty green needed something more.

So I ironed some double sided fusible webbing onto the wrong side of some scrap flannel and then I drew free hand a flower and cut it out. I peeled the backing off the fusible webbing and then placed the flower on one corner of the burp cloth and ironed it on. Next I sewed a zig zag around the edge of the flower and I was done.

Are they not just the cutest? Now I really like them!!! Hope my niece does too..

On another note... Over spring break we had yucky weather... Rained EVERY day!!! The older boys were getting bored and came up with a reward system for themselves and asked if I could help them... Out came the little circut for them to use. They had fun with it.. We are almost done with the project. So you will have to wait just a bit to see the final out come...

Tag Blanket

I have been wanting to make these tag blankets that have been popping up all over blogland. My niece just had her first baby and I thought this was the perfect time to learn how to make one. I also have a friend that had a baby in January of this year and thought she would like one for her daughter so this is hers. I will be making the one for my niece next then it's on to a boy one for my sis-in-law who is due in June. I went searching through my stash of flannel and ribbon and found everything I needed. Yeah me!! :O)

First I needed to decide on the size blanket I wanted. I cut my pieces 6 1/2 x 6 1/2 inch square. Then I laid my pieces out the way I wanted them.

Next, I sewed 2 of them together right sides facing in. Then I repeated this on the next 2 pieces.

Next, I ironed the seams flat.

Then sewed the 2 strips together right sides facing in again. Then ironed that seam open.

This is what your front should look like.

Next, take your ribbons and cut them to be 4 inches long. Then fold in half and pin them to the right side of the front of the blanket all the way around. Leaving an open space at each corner. I will explain why a bit later.

After you have pinned all the ribbons sew them on.

This is what the front of your blanket should look like at this point.

Now cut your back piece the same size as the front and sew right sides facing. Leaving an opening for you to turn right side out. Make sure ALL the ribbons are facing in so they do not get caught in the needle.

Now cut the corners at an angle to allow for a square corner. This is why you left the corners open when you were pinning the ribbons on.

Next find your opening and turn the blanket right side out.

Poke your corners so they are square then sew the opening closed. This next step is totally optional. I sewed around each square just to define them.

And here is the final product. My completed blanket was 11x11 inches. You can make this any size you want. I really like how it turned out. They are super easy. If you can sew a straight line this is a project for you.

This was fun to take pictures of this project. I am left handed and can take pictures with my right while still working with my left. I know what you are thinking.... Ruffled Skirt

So I found a tutorial for a ruffled skirt/dress on ModaBakeShop.com. I just loved it and thought that I could make it work for Jordan. I had these jeans of hers that she had huge holes in the knees. They are Levi's and the back pockets make the pants adorable. They are heart shaped. Love them!

Here are the jeans. Pitiful are they not? I just cut them right at the top of the inseam. This is the top of the skirt.

Here are the ruffles I made using some fat quarters I bought at Walmart when we still lived in Utah. Just trying to save some $$$. So I used what I had. So just keep scrolling down and enjoy the pictures of Jordan's first Photo Shoot ( I read a blog that gave ideas as how to do them, though she is not too good yet at still shots) still a work in progress. Boy after this shoot I definitely want/need a new camera that will let me do more. Oh well, I will just have to wait.

Sorry I do not know how to turn the picture yet. I will figure it out soon. I hope! :{
