I've been Featured!!

Okay, so for a while now I have been reading all these marvelous blogs by such talented women. They are too creative. They do everything, crafts, sewing, decorating, you name it and they do it. I decided one day to finally post my crafts and such and start to link to the parties on these blogs. I had a goal that maybe someday I could be featured on one of them. Well, this week I was featured TWICE!! First was by my cousin who's blog is Goddessofmycottage.blogspot.com, check her out and you will love her like I do! Next, I was featured by one of my favs Bluecricketdesign.net. She is too talented. I love checking out her blog everyday.

So I guess my first goal for the new year has been accomplished. I can now mark that one off. But, I still will be posting my creative side and linking to the parties. They are so fun. I love to check out all the ladies ideas in blogland, they are my new friends. Feel free to go through my blog roll and check out these lovey ladies and see if you too can be inspired by them. Have a great weekend everyone! :o)

P.S. I have joined a craft club blog called Craftsinbloom. You can find it on my blog roll and all are welcome to join. Happy crafting! :O)

Scraps=FREE!

Okay, so the hubs and I got a new toy that I will share with you all at another time. With the toy we were able to make a headboard for Nate's bed. I had some left over wood and the idea clicked and this is what I came up with. I only used things that I had so the cost was right up my alley.....FREE! The board was a 1/2 inch plank (do not know the size it is now because I did not measure it). I used my scraps of vinyl left from other projects and cut out the words with my Cricut (which I love). I painted the board black first then when it was dry I applied the vinyl wording and crown then mod podged over it to secure the vinyl forever, forever, forever. LOL Does anyone know that movie? I love it. LOL

Any hoo.....

I am planning on putting in the computer/pass through room when I am done decorating it. That post will be coming soon.

Not bad for just using what I had. I like it. Craft on ladies!! :o)

P.S. I was cleaning the Christus (?) and it was drying when I took the pic so no I do not leave on the kitchen counter all the time. It belongs on top of the China cabinet which I am going to revamp very soon. You will see that one too when its done! Oh the things to look forward to. so stay tuned. :o)

What to do with empty baby food jars?

I loved the jars that the Shanty sisters made over on their blog Shanty2chic.blogspot.com and thought about how I could do it. It dawned on me while in Hobby Lobby that I still had baby food jars from when my little guy was eating it. The light went off and this is what I came up with. I love them. I found the hearts at Hobby Lobby for 50% off and all the wood pieces I had a 30% off coupon so score. I love how they look inside of the jars.

Below is a pic of the things you need to make them. So go make some and enjoy.

Now I am on the look out for some shamrocks for St. Patty's day. Let me know if anyone finds any... Have a great day. :o)

My PB knock off!

Well, a while ago I was flipping through my Pottery Barn catalog and saw a hurricane filled with acorns and a candle with a white ribbon around it and I was in love with it. I wanted to make one but could not find the acorns at the store so it went to the wayside...Until I was at one of my boys football games this past fall. We always needed to be there at least and hour before hand so what to do while we waited? I let my daughter play on the playground near the football field as the boys warmed up and what did I see but HUNDREDS of acorns. The light went on and I ran to the car and got a Walmart bag (I always have extra in the car just in case) and filled it up. I was so excited.

When I got home I started looking for what to use and realized I did not have the hurricane I wanted so off to Walmart and there it was. I got the candle, ribbon, and charger from a wonderful store I found in Illinois called "Old Time Pottery" I just love that store. Great stuff and wonderful prices for my budget which is ...It has to be cheap! I think I paid like $15 for the whole thing including the hurricane.

Just remember to BAKE the acorns before you do anything with them. You do not want little worms coming out of them and crawling on your table. YUCK! I baked mine at 250 for like 2 hours. You probably could go higher in the temp and do a shorter time. What ever you like.

I just love it. I change the ribbon and candle depending on the season. For fall I had a cider candle with a plaid ribbon that matched. For Christmas I used the white candle and red ribbon and think it works great for Valentines Day too.

Here are some more pics for you to look at...

I hope that you like it. Super easy but very beautiful. Puts a smile on my face whenever I look at my table. :o) I am linking this post to Bluecricketdesign.net for her "Show and Tell Party." Go on over and have a look at all the great ideas. There are some real talented women over there. Have a great Wednesday. :o)

Chore chart board!

Well, here it is. My chore chart board that I made all by my lonesome self. I think it turned out pretty good. I used only things I had so I had to be a bit creative. I love doing that. Want to know how I made it? Well let me tell/show you how. Follow me my little chic-a-dees!
This is where the magic happens ( I know what you all are thinking. Get your minds out of the gutter). I mean the creative magic happens. This is my work room (aka our Michigan basement). I love all the power tools. I even got a new cordless drill for Christmas this year. Everyone thought I was crazy for being sooooo happy about it. :O) But, I am still.

I found this piece of faux paneling (left over from the sitting room remodel someone did in this house we are renting) and thought it would work for what I had in mind.

Next I found these leftover pieces of some kind of molding.

I cut the paneling (with my miter saw ) to the size I wanted then cut the molding to fit the edges.

Next, I painted the molding black. This took 2 coats of paint. While it was drying I worked on what to put on the paneling to make it thick enough so I could put thumb tacks on it. Again, I used what I had. Which was... Cardboard.

I just cut the cardboard to size with my exacto knife then hot glued it to the paneling.

I cut some burlap to fit the board with a couple extra inches on each side and hot glued it to the paneling. Then I just hot glued the painted molding to the edges and it was complete.

So, what do you think? I sure like it. I am thinking of putting some different clips on it to hang the chore chart and chore cards. But that is for later.
I am going to link this post to shant2chic.blogspot.com for their- "I made it without my husband party" and to somewhatsimple.com for her "Strut Your Stuff Thursday Party". Wish me luck that I link it properly. Why don't you head on over to visit these fine Ladies. I know you will just fall in love with them. Later my little chic-a-dees. Have a great Thursday!

Chores, chores, and more chores!

Okay, so I baked these little goodies today. Don't they look good? They are Jason's favorite (snicker doodles). While they where baking I was working on some brilliant idea I had for making my daily stress lighter. A chore chart. Yesterday I was on the Internet researching them for what seemed like hours. I could not find the "right" one for our family so I decided to make my own. Hopefully it will work out much better for us.
I did happen to find some chore cards that I thought would help with the "What do you want me to do in here?" question. I do not remember where I found them but someone used them for an enrichment activity. Sorry I laminated them so there is a glare on them.

I am working on something to hang them on and it is almost done. I will finish it tomorrow and have it ready to post for a linky party at my favorite blog Shanty2chic on Thursday. I am so excited to be a part of this linky party. I have always wanted to do it. I decided this is my year to link to as much as possible so I need to keep the projects rolling off my finger tips.
Hope you all have a great week. :o)

Happy 2010!!!

Well, the new year is upon us. I am having high hopes for 2010. I have been thinking about what I want to change in my life (aka resolutions) and have decided that this year I am going to work on the TOP FOUR. So here they are:

1. Spirituality- This is most important. No I do not have a problem with my spirituality I just want to build upon it and help my kids build theirs. I do not know where I would be with out the Gospel of Jesus Christ in my life and I am so thankful for the opportunity to share it with my family and friends. I love my calling as the YW President and am looking forward to a wonderful year ahead.

2. My home- Now this is a fun one for me. I want to create the home I have envisioned in my head. That will require DECORATING! YEAH ME!!! I love to decorate and find new things/ways to do it on a budget. Luckily I have found some great blogs out in blogland with wonderful ladies that do just that and are willing to show how they created their "works of art" which they call their homes. Check out my blog roll for their blogs to help inspire you. My favs are ThriftyDecorChick and Shanty2chic. These are some incredible ladies.

3. My kids- I know this goes with number 1 but is a little different. I want my kids to know how much I love them and I want them to start learning the things they need to help them grow into wonderful adults that are self sufficient and willing to help those in need. I want them to know their worth in our home and what is expected of them. They should already know that but I thought this would be a good reminder. I just love them so much.

4.My husband- He sacrifices so much for us. He is such a great dad and husband. I want him to know daily that I love him. I am hoping that the above goals/resolutions will do just that.

I hope that everyone of my family and friends finds 2010 to be an INSPIRING year. My the Lord bless you and my you have a wonderful New Year! :o)
